Pokemon Sun and Moon Variants, Customization, More Custom Z-Moves, and Pokemon Refresh

Well, another trailer has been released since the CoroCoro leaks this month. I know what you're thinking. 'KelleyG, it's been over a week since the CoroCoro leaks and you're just now posting about it?! Put some hustle in your Crustle!' I didn't think there was much information in those leaks, okay? I wanted more to go on before forming an opinion. Now that we've got that out of the way - let's get back to the latest Sun and Moon news!!

More Ultra Beasts!
UB-02 Beauty and UB-02 Absorption were announced in the CoroCoro leaks and later shown in a teaser trailer. The latest trailers clear up some of the mystery of why they have the same number but it still leave a lot of questions. UB-02 Absorption is in Pokémon Sun and Beauty is in Pokémon Moon. The designs are okay. Beauty is tall, painfully thin, and delicate. The animation suggests that Beauty will be very fast. However, Absorption is all muscle...so it will be powerful but slow. It is still unclear is these are Pokémon or not. Since they are not listed in with the Pokémon on the official site, I will assume they are not Pokémon (or at least uncatchable). If not Pokémon, then what are they? Dimensional beings? Experiments?! I can't wait to find out.

Version Exclusive Pokémon!
Passimian
This is a Fighting type and is exclusive to Pokémon Sun. It's a lemur crossed with an American football player. It's a decent concept but it doesn't look like a Pokémon. It looks like a lemur. It's ability Receiver let's it acquire it's ally's ability if they fall in battle. This means it only works in double battles and free-for-alls. This is fine but limits its usefulness.

Oranguru
This is a Normal/Psychic type and is exclusive to Pokémon Moon. It's a white and purple orangutan. Again, decent concept with an okay design but it just doesn't look like a Pokémon. It's ability and special move also work only in double battles and free-for-alls. Again it limits its usefulness. Since there were 20 version exclusive Pokémon in X, Y, and ORAS, I feel it is safe to assume that there will be more version exclusives to come. However, in X and Y only 5 were Kalos region Pokémon (2 evolution chains and the legendaries). This leads me to the unfortunate conclusion that these two are probably the only version exclusives from the Alola region besides the legendaries...and the next Pokémon that I will talk about.

Version Exclusive Evolution!
This is first for the Pokémon games and I love the concept. Lycanroc is the evolution of Rockruff. His form depends on which game you have.

Midday form
This is the form for Pokémon Sun. It looks like a tan wolf with rocky spikes coming out of it. The design is decent and works for the evolution line. It is a Rock type which makes sense.

Midnight form
This is the form for Pokémon Moon. It is a werewolf with burgundy fur and wild eyes. I don't like this design very much. It seems very disproportionate. It is Rock type as well which is surprising. In the leaks, I thought I would be Rock/Dark or Rock/Psychic.

Character Customization is back and better than ever!
I was so thrilled to see this in the newest trailer. It looks like they expanded on hair styles and colors as well as clothes. Also, thankfully, it appears that you can take off your character's hat. That is a relief. It was such an annoyance in X and Y to not be able to remove the hat. The clothes are colorful and diverse and I cannot wait to customize my character in November!!

Pokémon Refresh
This is Pokémon-Amie with grooming and 1 unexpected twist. You can heal your Pokémon's status ailments like paralysis and poison. This part makes me wonder...does this mean that if you have no healing items that you can just use Pokémon Refresh instead? If this is available from the start of the game then you won't have to buy healing items like antidotes and burn heals. Or does this mean we won't have access to healing items since Alola is such a remote region? I can't be sure thus far. Only time will tell as more details are released.

More Custom Z-Moves!
Pikachu has its own Z-Move called Catastropika. This should have been expected since Raichu has a custom Z-Move. Catastropika is the cutest Z-Move dance that I have seen yet. It also looks very powerful.

Eevee also has its own custom Z-Move. It's called Extreme Evoboost. The animation part of this is very long. I do enjoy seeing all of Eevee's evolutions coming together, though. Unfortunately, this also seems to confirm that that there are no new Eevee evolutions coming in Sun and Moon. To be honest, I would rather have a new evolution than the Z-Move. Well, at least Eevee got some love in this game.

And there you have it! There wasn't really that much revealed but Game Freak can't tell us everything before the new games come out. There will be new information released on Oct 4, I believe, so I will be on the lookout for that. Leave a comment telling me your thoughts on the latest trailers and follow me so you don't miss new posts. Keep on playing and until next time, blog happy!

Top 10 Yu-Gi-Oh! Effect Monsters - Beast type

It's that time again! This time it's all about Beast type effect monsters. Before I start, I want to get a few things out there. One, I am only doing this on effect monsters, not Fusion, Xyz, Synchro, tuner, or anything like that. Two, this is all my opinion. If you don't agree, leave a comment telling me your top 10 beast monsters. Now that we've covered the formalities....let's begin!

10. Bazoo the Soul Eater
It's a level 4 monster so it's easy to summon. Plus, it can give its self an ATK boost. The amount depends upon how many monsters you banish (up to 3) from your graveyard. Plus, the ATK boost stays until your opponent's turn is over. Nice!

9. Gyaku-Gire Panda
Who doesn't love pandas? How about a panda that gives itself a 500 ATK boost for every monster your opponent controls? That's my kind of panda. Plus, it can inflict piercing damage (if defense position opposing monster has DEF lower that Gyaku-Gire Panda's ATK, opponent takes difference as damage). The only drawback is that works best only if your opponent has a lot of monsters on the field.

8. Flame Tiger
High ATK and low level already make this card powerful. It's ability pushes it over the edge. If it's in your graveyard, instead of drawing a card that turn you can special summon it. Drawback? It's banished when it leaves the field.

7. Fencing Fire Ferret
Again, it's another high ATK and low level card. I do not have a thing for Fire attribute cards, I promise, but this card had to be on this list. When it's destroyed you can destroy 1 face up monster that your opponent has AND inflict 500 points of damage. How is this not great?! Okay, the damage doesn't happen unless you destroy a monster...that's why it's not higher on the list. Still, it's a great card.

6. Vampire Koala
The only thing greater than a low level monster that can inflict damage is one that can also recover life points. Vampire Koala does just that. When if inflicts damage, you gain the same amount in life points. Plus, it has super adorable card art.

5. Gravity Behemoth
Our first high level monster of the day! This level 6 bruiser has an impressive ability. If there are no cards on the field, it can be summoned without a tribute! Of course, that is only when it's not the first turn of the duel. Plus, it can also destroy field spell cards. Drawback? It can't attack if you used that ability. It's worth it to upset your opponent's strategy.

4. Performapal Elephammer
I could not leave Performapals off this list. Elephammer gets center stage since it can be normal summoned without a tribute if you control 2 or more other Performapals. Plus, when it attacks you can return all of your opponent's spell and trap cards it their hand. The only downside - it can't attack unless you control another Performapal. This shouldn't be a problem so it's well worth it.

3. Behemoth the King of All Animals
First, it can be summoned with 1 tribute. For a level 7 monster, that's huge. However, its ATK drops to 2000 if summoned that way. Second, when tribute summoned, you can take as many Beast monsters as there were tributes from your graveyard and put them in your hand. So it can be summoned somewhat quickly and can get monsters into your hand. Not bad!

2. Earthbound Immortal Cusillu
Anyone who has seen the 5Ds anime knows how powerful these cards can be. In the case of Cusillu, it cannot be an attack target and it can attack directly. Plus, if it would be destroyed by battle (somehow), you can tribute another monster instead then your opponent's life points are cut in half. So if your opponent finds a way to attack it, you lose a different monster instead and they lose life points. What's not to love? All Earthbound Immortals have 2 drawbacks: there can only be 1 on the field at a time and if there isn't a field spell card on the field, the monster is destroyed. I think this is well worth it in this case.

And in the #1 spot we have.........

1. Andro Sphinx, Sphinx Teleia, and Theinen the Great Sphinx
Let me break it down first:
Andro Sphinx - you can summon it for 500 life points if you have Pyramid of Light on the field face-up and if it defeats a defense position monster, you opponent takes half the defense position monster's ATK as damage. However, it can't attack the turn it is summoned and you can't special summon it from the graveyard.
Sphinx Teleia - it has the same abilities and drawbacks as Andro Sphinx except that when it defeats a defense position monster, your opponent takes half the defense position monster's DEF as damage.
Theinen the Great Sphinx - it can only be special summoned by paying 500 life points when the previous 2 monsters are destroyed at the same time. However, it can be special summoned from the hand or the deck. Plus, when the summon is successful, at the cost of another 500 life points you can boost this monster's ATK by 3000 for this turn.

Now, I know that the first 2 of these rely on Pyramid of Light being active on the field for the special summons to work. Plus, the same 2 have to survive on the field for a turn before you can attack with them. Still...we are looking at 3000 and 2500 ATK stats plus it only costs 1000 life points to get them both on the field in the same turn. I don't see how your opponent can destroy them both (aside from Dark Hole or destroying the Pyramid of Light) and if they do, you just use Theinen's ability to summon itself on the field for another 500 life points.
That being said, these 3 cards form a seriously powerful combo. I couldn't pick just 1 to be in the #1 spot for this list. Also, they were in Yu-Gi-Oh! the movie as well. Anime love aside - these cards are amazing!

And there you have it. I hope you enjoyed this post. Again, leave me a comment with your top 10 beast effect cards if you wish. Follow me so you won't miss any posts and as always, blog happy!

More Sun and Moon News - Alolan Rattata, Snorlium z, and Alolan Professor Oak?!

A new trailer was dropped this past week and the hype for the new Pokémon games is even higher! Let's jump right into it!

Alolan Rattata - Rattata in the Alolan Region are dark/normal type! I like the new look, but it's whiskers now looks more like an awkwardly placed mustache. Its type change certainly takes advantage of its existing move sets but fighting types can destroy it with ease. Still, it's another cool Alolan pokemon.

Special Z-Moves - I had kind of hoped that there would be some non-generic Z-moves. I love the animation for Raichu's Stoked Sparksurfer Z-move. I wasn't all that impressed with Z-moves to begin with but now I am warming up to them.

Munchlax - if you purchase the game early, you get a Munchlax. Why? It's so you can see Snorlax's new Z-move: Pulverizing Pancake! Have Snorlax hold Snorlium Z and it will use this devastating move! I feel sorry for the Gumshoos in the trailer...that move looks brutal.

Type:Null - I had to watch the trailer a few times before I realized that this was that Pokémon's name, not its type. It's a normal Pokémon and it...it's...so....ugly. I researched this one a bit and found out why it looks this way. It's a genetic experiment in a special mask to make it easier to control. Where have we seen this before??? Mewtwo, anyone? I hope it doesn't lose its mask and go after the humans that created it. That couldn't possibly happen....could it? Imagine if it has an alternate unmasked form that is faster and more powerful. I would hate to face that in battle.

Jangmo-o - Oh my gosh, this thing is cute! This little dragon type won me over almost instantly. Finally, a dragon type that actually looks like a dragon! The official website calls this Pokémon a warrior and mentions that it trains in a group. I wonder if this will evolve into a dragon/fighting type? I just hope its evolution isn't like Drampa....please, Game Freak, it's too cute to not have a great evolution (if it evolves, that is). I'm not normally a fan of yellow, but it works on this Pokémon.

Alolan Raticate - Okay, most of us saw this coming or at least hoped that it was coming. This Pokémon is also dark/normal type. However, it appears the Raticate of Alola eat a lot more than Kanto Raticate. I think the puffy cheeks is a bit overboard though. Seriously, it looks like the Raticate has the mumps or is suffering an allergic reaction to something it ate.

Game Time Difference - I like this feature. If you play Pokémon Sun, day time hours are day time hours in the game. If you play Moon, it's depicted as night time in the game. Basically, if you are playing Moon at 11 am, the game clock makes it 11 pm. Also, due to the time different, there a differences in game events. I think that is great touch to really hammer in the Sun/Moon theme!

The Aether Foundation - Despite it's name, the comes off as another evil team to me. So they wear white, and claim to have good intentions. I just don't trust them...any of them. No one (in these games) is that good or pure of purpose. The characters revealed were the leader Lusamine, the branch chief Faba, the assistant branch chief Wicke, and the workers. I love the main characters' designs, but the worker uniforms leave something to be desired. The workers seem like grunts of any other team which is why I initially thought - yeah, this is another evil team. I hope I am wrong...but we won't know until we play the game!

Gladion - Speaking of evil teams, Team Skull's newest enforcer is awesome. I love his edgy look to match his personality. I wonder if he will be another rival in the game. I prefer rivals that you love to hate like Gary and Silver. Friendly rivals are just...annoying, in my opinion.

Searching for Zygarde - Finally, Zygarde is explained. I always found it weird in X and Y that they had this random legendary in a cave that you wouldn't have known about if you hadn't wandered around in there. That's how I found it - 'what's the point of this cave-what is THAT?!' The story gives no mention of this Pokémon so its been a mystery. It appears that you will have a chance to get Zygarde again - piece by piece so you have its full-form. I love the idea of a legendary capturing side-quest. I also loved that Dexio and Sina, Professor Sycamore's assistants from Kalos, give you the Zygarde Cube for the side-quest.

Photography with the Poké Finder - I love this! In X and Y, I loved being able to take photos. The ability to post the images to some form of in-game social media is a nice touch too. It also makes me love the Rotom Pokedex even more.

Ultra Beasts - the final reveal was UB-01. The first of the ultra beasts. What are these beasts, exactly? I thought they were super-powered Pokémon but UB-01 isn't listed on the official website page for Pokémon. All it says under the description is that the Aether Foundation are researching them, they are powerful, and we know little about them. I won't deny that UB-01 appears to be related to Prof. Kukui's Assistant, Lillie. For the longest time, I thought Lillie was related to Diantha or Lysandre from Kalos. Now, I think she's related to Lusamine and Gladion. I mean, come on - how many platinum blondes with lime green eyes are in this region?

Possible Evolution for Cutiefly - I found in the other trailer released, called 'Train On #2', a game clip showing a possible evolution for Cutiefly. I hope that this is the case since I really wanted Cutiefly to have an evolution.

Prof Oak?! - When I was checking how to spell the Alolan professor's name, I found something else. Apparently, there is a cousin of professor Oak who studies the Alolan variants. His name is Samson Oak. I guess even Professor Oak gets an Alolan form....kind of.

Well, that wraps it up! I hope you enjoyed this post. I am so excited for Pokémon Sun and Moon! I apologize for this post being a day early but I don't know if I'll have time tomorrow to post. So I figured, why not post now? Anyway, leave a comment if you want and follow me so you don't miss any future posts. And as always, blog happy!

Top 10 Yu-Gi-Oh! Effect Monsters - Aqua type

Hello again and it's time for another TCG post. This time, I decided to do a list of top effect monsters. As I have said in other posts, this is all my opinion. If you don't agree, please leave a comment telling me what you think are the top ten effect monsters.

For brevity (and my sanity) I decided to only list from one particular monster typing - Aqua. I will make a list for each type in time, so don't worry that I'm only going to focus on one type. Now that the formalities are done, let's get started!

10. Mermaid Knight
Why is this on the list? Mermaid Knight may only have 1500 ATK, but if you have the field spell card Umi on the field, she can attack twice. Being able to attack twice helps you mow down your opponent's cards twice as quickly since Umi gives it a 200 ATK boost. Also, since the field spell cards A Legendary Ocean and Lemuria, the Forgotten City have their names treated as Umi, you can use Mermaid Knight's ability with them as well!

9. Drill Barnacle
With 300 ATK, this card doesn't seem like much. That's where its effect comes in - it can attack your opponent directly and every time that it inflicts battle damage that way, it gains 1000 ATK! Given enough time, it can become quite a powerful card. Since this card requires multiple turns to be useful, I couldn't put it any higher on the list.

8. Evilswarm Ketos
With its Dark attribute and 1750 ATK, this card is already really good since there are so many decks/strategies that use Dark attribute monsters. Now add the ability to destroy 1 spell/trap card on the field and you've got something pretty awesome. However, to use the ability, you have to tribute this card so it could backfire if you aren't careful (i.e. leaving you defenseless for a turn).

7. Cold Enchanter
Discard a card and put an Ice Counter on any card. This doesn't seem like much-oh wait, for every Ice Counter on the field, the 1600 ATK monster gets an additional 300 ATK boost. Any card that has the potential to continuously grow powerful is amazing in my book. But, it all depends on how many cards you are willing to discard to the graveyard.

6. Koa'ki Meiru Ice
1900 ATK? Good! Level 4? Easy to summon! What makes this card better than all the ones that came before it? It can destroy 1 special-summoned monster per turn. All you have to do is put a card from your hand to the graveyard! Imagine that your opponent special summons a monster that you know that you can't beat. Then you draw this card. One discard later, you have control of this duel! However, it is a Koa'ki Meiru card so unless you have Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru or whatever other specified card in your hand, it will leave the field at the end of the turn. Still, it is well worth the price to disrupt your opponent's strategy!

5. Warrior of Atlantis
I love a card with multiple uses. You can either use it as the 1900 ATK bruiser that it is or you can discard it to pull A Legendary Ocean out of your deck. Either way, there was no way I could not put this card on this list.

4. The Tripper Mercury
This is a card that I only recently learned about. I know it must be tribute summoned using at least 2 monsters and has only 2000 ATK. Why is it here? When it is tribute summoned, all monsters on the field are put into attack position. If you used 3 tributes to summon this monster, your opponent's monsters also lose ATK equal to their original ATK. Oh and it can attack 2 times during the battle phase. Let me repeat that: if summoned with 3 tributes, all cards are put in attack, your opponent's cards are severely weakened, and it can attack multiple times during the battle phase. This is the very definition of an amazing card!

3. Mobius the Frost Monarch
Come on, how could I not put Mobius in this list? When Mobius is tribute summoned, you can destroy any 2 spell/trap cards on the field. I chose this card over its 'Mega' version because I feel that it only needs one tribute. The other needs two tributes (either 2 monsters to tribute summon normally or 1 tribute summoned monster which will need a minimum of 1 monster for its summoning) at minimum. Besides, we all know how great this card is - it has been around since the Soul of the Duelist booster pack was released back in 2004. Twelve years later it is still a great card! There is even a 'Monarch' structure deck that was released this year called Emperor of Darkness. Simply put: Monarchs rule!

2. Cloudian - Eye of the Typhoon
Okay, this card also needs 2 tributes to be summoned. However, it has 3000 ATK, can't be destroyed in battle, and when it attacks, all monsters (except 'Cloudians') change position. No monster is safe and nothing can take it down. The only thing keeping it from being #1 is that if it is put in face-up defense position, it is destroyed.

1. Mermail Abyssbalaen
Why is this #1? First - easy summon: just discard 4 Mermail cards. Second - you can target your opponent's monsters (up to the amount of Mermails in your graveyard) to gain 500 ATK per monster and destroy those targeted monsters. It clears the field while boosting itself up. All you need is Mermail cards in your graveyard and its special summoning requirement takes care of that. Plus, if you tribute another face-up attack position Mermail, it gains another effect: when the damage step begins, if Abyssbalaen fought a defense position monster, the defense position monster is destroyed automatically. This will work nicely if the monster either has extremely high boosted DEF or its ability keeps it from being destroyed in battle. I know this card can only be useful in a Mermail deck, but still - this thing is a tank. Why not make it #1 on my list??

And that's it. I hope you enjoyed my list of Top 10 Effect Monsters - Aqua type. I will make more lists in the future, like I said. Again, this is all my opinion. Leave a comment if you don't agree or wish to share your top 10 Aqua Effect Monsters. I look forward to seeing other people's opinions. PS, I know another Pokémon Sun/Moon trailer came out this week but with so little information in it, I decided to do another TCG post instead. When more Sun/Moon information comes out, I will post about it. As always, until next time, blog happy!
