We are only 12 days away from Pokémon Sun/Moon's release and the excitement continues to build. This week, I thought it would be fun to take a look at my top ten Alolan forms that have been released thus far. I will not be looking at anything that hasn't been released in an official trailer or the demo. Also, as always, this is all my opinion and you don't have to agree with me. Now that we've covered the formalities, let's jump into it!
10. Alolan Exeggutor
As much as it pains me to say it, I don't dislike Alolan Exeggutor as much as I dislike other Alolan forms (like Grimer). I kind of understand the long neck adaptation but I still don't like it. I also find the secondary Dragon typing to be ridiculous. Still, it's not as bad as others design-wise which is why it earned a spot on this list.
9. Alolan Rattata
I will be the first to admit that I don't like Rattata. It's just not my favorite to catch or fight against. Still, I like its Alolan form. The primary Dark typing now makes moves like Bite more powerful. Plus, its mustache kind of reminds me of Mario.
8. Alolan Meowth
I love cats and have always thought that Meowth was cute. However, I didn't use it much because Normal types have never been that powerful. I love the new Alolan form's coloring while the smug expression I could do without. Still, like Rattata, it's a typing that makes sense since it has so many Dark type moves in its move pool. Dat's right!
7. Alolan Marowak
If you've ever played Red, Blue, or even Leaf Green, you know the story of the Marowak ghost. It has always stood out as one of the sadder moments of the game. I'm glad Marowak got some love in this new generation. Its Alolan Form looks great. Its Fire/Ghost typing is unexpected yet Ghost feels very appropriate for this Pokémon. I look forward to seeing this Pokémon in action in the upcoming games.
6. Alolan Muk
If you had asked me about my favorite Gen 1 pokemon, Muk wouldn't have been on the list. I don't like the look of Muk (it's sludge, eww). However, I like the look of Alolan Muk. The rippling color effect is amazing and really steps up this Pokémon's design. I still think the design could have been of a different typing than Poison/Dark but at least it's immune to Psychic type attacks now.
5. Alolan Raichu
I have never been a fan of Raichu. For the longest time, I wouldn't even evolve my Pikachus. However, I tried using one and gained respect for it. Alolan Raichu takes that respect and turns it into love with that adorable design. How can anyone say no to that face?
4. Alolan Ninetales
Ninetales has always been majestic with its nine golden tails. Alolan Ninetales takes that and blows it out of the water. I love this beautiful design and unexpected Ice/Fairy typing. It's so lovely yet the appearance of it in the game doesn't quite seem to do the 2D art justice. It's still fantastic, though.
3. Alolan Sandslash
Sandslash is another one of those Pokémon that I never really used. I am so glad it got an upgrade in its Alolan form. The typing of Ice/Steel is (like so many other Alolan typings) unexpected but really (pardon the pun) cool. I know it'll be pretty slow but it is still awesome.
2. Alolan Sandshrew
The only thing cuter than a regular Sandshrew is the Alolan form. I love how it looks like it's wearing an igloo parka. It's so cute and I really like the Ice/Steel typing. Again, I know it will be slow and very weak to Fire and Fighting attacks, but I still love it so much.
1. Alolan Vulpix
The absolutely most adorable Alolan form of them all. I always loved Vulpix and I think it looks even better in white and blue! Just look at it. How could this not be number one? Its Ice typing is great and its fur looks like piles of snow! I can't wait to catch one of these in the upcoming games.
And there you have it, my top ten Alolan forms released thus far. I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it. Leave a comment below telling me your favorite Alolan types. Don't forget to follow me if you enjoyed this post so you don't miss out on future posts. Have a great week and as always, keep on gaming!
